This is random, but I enjoy reading, and would like to know what you’re reading.
These are the books I’ve read in the past few months, and what I’ve got from each of them.
Outliers – Malcolm Gladwell
Favourable circumstances in one’s life, cultural heritage and hours and hours of practice are what make people really good at what they do. To become good at what I want to do, I need to put in the hours, and try and gain alternatives for those favourable circumstances that others have. Also, if others are given the opportunities to do so, and circumstances in which those opportunities can be maximised, then they too can become really good at what they do (alluding to societal development).
Desiring God – John Piper
Delighting in God is our chief purpose. In whatever we do, just need to enjoy Him.
How the Mighty Fall – Jim Collins
Good management practices are needed for proper government of organisations and self.
The Barbarian Way – Erwin Raphael McManus
An average life is just so boring to live. Christ didn’t call us to an average life where we’re living just to get by. It becomes stale. Live for an adventure, whatever it may be in ones context. To some it may be working behind the counter at a post office. To others it may be saving the gorillas in East Africa. Whatever it is, live it out.
And there are more…
But what are you reading? And how has this impacted you?
